I just got a 2022 Ioniq 5 Ultimate and noticed the pedestrian warning noise still hums inside when I’m stopped at a red light. Shifting to P stops it, but it comes back in D even when I'm not moving. Normal, or have I unknowingly changed something?

That's a good question, and it's a common one with the Ioniq 5! The pedestrian warning noise, or VESS, is designed to be active at low speeds, including when you're creeping or stopped in Drive. So, what you're experiencing is totally normal. It's a bit odd to hear it when you're completely stopped, but it's part of the system's design. Shifting to Park silences it because the car assumes you're parked and not posing a risk to pedestrians. You haven't changed anything, it's just how the Ioniq 5's VESS operates. Some owners find it a little annoying, but it is what it is.

It’s normal for the pedestrian warning sound to continue when in Drive, even at a stop. It’s a safety feature for awareness, shifting to Park turns it off, though.

Definitely just how the system works. It can be a bit surprising at first, but it's there to make sure people around you are aware of your vehicle, even when you're stationary. Totally normal!
