I totally lost my key fob for my 2020 Ioniq. So I ordered a new one online, thinking I was all set. But now, it feels like this fob is giving me the cold shoulder! I’ve been trying to follow every random vids and online guide I can find, but it’s just not cooperating. Anyone out there got the lowdown on how to make this thing work? I’d really love to dodge the dealer hassle if I can!

Hey @dartan187, a locksmith should be able to handle it easily, but to be honest, a dealer is your best bet for the right option.

You can save more money if you'll buy a blank key fob and have it programmed outside the dealership.

Most Hyundai models require the key fob to be programmed using specialized equipment, so DIY solutions can be hit or miss, including the Ioniq. This is because of the KIA USB Keys debacle, so everyone's upping their key security. A professional locksmith might be your best bet, they often have the tools to program the fob without needing a trip to the dealer. Just make sure the fob you bought is compatible with your exact model and year.

Getting a new one online is easy but getting it to work with your Ioniq is where it gets tricky and complicated. You can't usually program these newer key fobs yourself they have complicated security chips that need special tools and software to program. even though we all dislike going to the dealership it's likely your best bet. They have the necessary tools to get your new key fob working correctly.
