I have a 2020 Ioniq that I bought newly, so of course I was told my extended warranty will cover every kind of damage. Rodent damaged the wiring harness recently and the service department said my warranty does not cover it. I have read that many new vehicles have this issue due to the use of soy based wiring covers, I really think Hyundai could cover the wiring with some metallic mesh, I cant afford to keep replacing them.

Hey, to add is it really okay to charge your ioniq with a Solar Charger?

Warranty only covers factory defects. I would spray/apply some rodent repellent on it.

If you have a dog and a cat, it would be very helpful as well.

I’ve heard of this happening before, seems like the soy-based wiring is more common than people think. If the dealership won’t budge on coverage, you might want to try reaching out to Hyundai corporate directly. In the meantime, rodent tape (Honda makes a solid one) and peppermint spray might keep them out of your engine bay. Have you looked into comprehensive insurance coverage for stuff like this?

This is to update everyone, so I reached out to Hyundai corporate, and while they couldn’t cover the damage under warranty, they were really helpful in offering some solutions. I used rodent tape around the wiring and applied peppermint spray, which has worked surprisingly well. I also checked into comprehensive insurance coverage and added a policy that covers rodent damage. So far, it’s been much more manageable.
