Key fob battery problems

Everyone should keep a spare battery for their car key. I had a problem with my key not working, but I had a spare. I'm now keeping an extra battery in the glove box. I also found that the old battery was almost dead. I'm going to replace that one too. You can try holding the key near the start button if it happens again, but it's not easy to do while driving.

You can drive the car without the fob in it after you start it, haha! No need to keep it close to the button. You need the fob only to start the car.

Thanks, great tip.. yeah, keeping a spare battery in the glove box is smart, and replacing the old one now will save you trouble later.

Are you sure about that? What happened to @marley09 is familiar to me. When it happened to me, things didn't go quite as expected when I actually tried moving the key away from the car.

Years ago, I tested it by moving the fob away, and the car stayed. But recently, it acted differently with a low battery in the fob. I hled the fob near the start button, and once I put the fob in a different place, the display showed me "Key not detected".

I had to keep it close to the button just to keep the car in ready-to-drive mode. Not sure if it is a difference in battery level or something else, but after that, I don't want to take chances.
