Hey all,

I have a quick question. For those in Canada or here in the U.S. who’ve recently gotten an Ioniq 5, did you face any markups, and was your car a special order?

A friend of mine put down a $1,000 deposit on an Ioniq 5 Ultimate at a dealership in Ontario, Canada. They told him it’ll likely be at least 8 months before his order is processed, so he’s on a waitlist. He’s also heard some dealerships are adding big markups over MSRP.

Kindly share your insights.

I don't live in Canada, but I know that Canada's wait times, especially for the Ultimate trim, can be that long. In the U.S., some dealers still add markups on the Ioniq 5, but it varies by location.

I recently got my Ioniq 5 in the U.S. with no markup, but it was a special order. Eight months sounds typical demand is high. Tell your friend to watch for surprise fees at delivery

That’s a long wait, but unfortunately pretty common for the Ioniq 5 right now. Some dealerships have been marking up, while others stick closer to MSRP, definitely worth asking upfront if the price is locked with the deposit. If your friend isn’t set on the Ultimate trim, lower trims might have shorter wait times.

Most dealerships in Canada try to avoid adding a big markup to the price, since people don't like it. But they might try to sneak in extra costs by making you buy things like extra protection or an extended warranty. It's always a good idea to ask for a clear breakdown of everything you're paying for.
